Bergen was the largest wooden city in Europe in the 19th century. The steep, densely built up streets, squares and lanes gave it its unique character. Bergen, like many other cities in Norway, has experienced many fires. Its original appearance was reconstructed, and some dilapidated houses were replaced with new copies.

An architectural and historical museum is located here in the open air, in which more than 40 wooden buildings of the 18th - 19th centuries have been preserved. Visiting “Old Bergen”, which was opened in 1949, you will get acquainted with the life of the townspeople of the past two centuries, reflecting their tastes and life. This is a real city corner with streets, squares, houses of people of different classes. In the museum park you can find a pastry shop, grocery stores, a barber shop, a dental office, a photo studio, as well as a jewelry workshop of those times.
