Photo and descriptionThe Museum "Historical and Contemporary Role of the Oka River in the Life of Murom and the Murom Territory" is located in an ordinary secondary school No. 5 in the city of Murom, on Pervomayskaya Street, 36. The school more than seven hundred exhibits that were collected by search groups of students of this school. The first exhibition in the museum was opened in the early 1970s. The museum was closed in the mid-1980s, but since 1998 it has reopened its doors to visitors. Based on the materials collected by the search groups, excursions have been developed that tell about the history of navigation on the Oka in general and about the Murom port in particular, about the fauna and flora of the Oka basin, about the great people who were born and lived on the shores of this great rivers, about historical places, monuments of architecture on the Oka. The excursions are conducted by the schoolchildren themselves every day upon prior request. During the operation of the Oka River Museum, it was visited by about 20 thousand tourists, including students from other schools in Murom, Vladimir region, other Russian cities, as well as visitors from countries CIS and Far Abroad. The exposition includes several stands. The main museum stand demonstrates the length of the Oka, its tributaries and towns located on the river and tributaries, including the Murom. A stand dedicated to the history of navigation on the Oka River tells visitors about the development of technical ideas to improve water transport from the most primitive ancient ships to steamers of the 19th and 20th centuries. Particular attention is paid to the consideration of the problem of seething and the use of horsepower when pulling vessels against the current. A stand dedicated to navigation tells about the past and present of Murom shipbuilding and services for monitoring the state of the river. Separate sections are devoted to the technical section of the track and the work of the hydrological service. In the exposition of the museum, you can learn about the natives of the Murom land of the 17-20th centuries, who glorified it throughout Russia and the whole world. It tells about the personality of Nikita Davydov (bronze and self-made craftsman), Vladimir Kozmich Zvorykin (father of television) and Ivan Semenovich Kulikov (painter). The exposition also tells about the famous Russian saints Peter and Fevronye, Ilya Muromets. Here you can learn about the representatives of animals and plants, which are often found in the Oka basin, including those included in the Red Book. The stand about the history of navigation on the Oka continues the stand called "Oka Today". It tells about the period of replacement of steamships with motor ships and the opening of the era of high speeds in water transport.
