Photo and description

Krumpendorf am Worthersee is an Austrian village on the northern shore of Lake Worthersee, in which almost 3.5 thousand people live. The village of Krumpendorf is adjacent to the capital of the province of Carinthia, the city of Klagenfurt.

For the first time in written documents, the name Chrumpendorf, as this settlement was called, is found in 1216. Its inhabitants were engaged in agriculture for a long time, until in the last two decades of the 19th century tourists learned about the cozy town stretching along the shore of a picturesque lake. Since then, Krumpendorf has become one of the local centers of summer tourism. Among its attractions are several luxurious villas set amidst lush gardens. These include, for example, the Villa Madile, which belonged to Baron Basso von Godel-Lannoy. It was built in 1890 by the architect Franz Madile. The building of the Dvorski coffee house, designed by Karl Maria Kerndle in 1927, is also interesting. At the turn of the XIX-XX centuries, the villas "Highback" and "Schwalbennest" appeared.

While in Krumpendorf, you can see three castles at once. Perhaps the most popular local castle is the three-story Drasing Castle, located north of Krumpendorf on a hill covered with dense forest. This ancient building, remembering the Carolingian era, is currently owned by a private person, therefore, entry to its territory is prohibited. Another closed to tourists castle called Hornstein is located on a wooded hillside north of the village of Krumpendorf. It was built in the 15th century by Ulrich Hornsteiner. The third castle can be found right in the center of Krumpendorf, on the main street. It is named after this settlement. The castle was built in 1735-1740.
