Photo and description

The majestic Drasing Castle sits on a wooded hill north of the Krumpendorf municipality. The first mention of it occurs in 1284. In 1379 the castle became the property of the Farber family. At the end of the 15th century, Emperor Frederick III handed over the Drasing palace to Sebald Felner, who was a vassal of the Counts von Gorz. The Fellners owned the castle in Carinthia for a long time - until 1630.

After this time, the Drasing estate changed owners so often that one listing of their names would take several pages. Among the wealthy who ruled Drasing Castle, Thaddaus Lanner should be especially noted, who in 1842-1843 allocated funds for the restoration of the castle and the enlargement of the tower at the southeast corner of the building. More serious restoration work was carried out already in the second half of the last century - in 1973 and 1994-1996. Drasing Castle is currently owned by the Kos family and used privately. Tourists are not allowed in its interiors.

The three-story castle, reminiscent of the romantic Renaissance palaces of the 16th century, makes a strong impression. Above the northern portal, you can see the coat of arms of the former owners of the palace - Messrs. Felner. The inner courtyard of the castle attracts attention with its arcade galleries. In the large hall on the second floor of the east wing, a Renaissance oven covered with green tiles has survived. In 1660, a chapel was built on the first floor of the western wing of the castle, where a valuable painting dating from 1698 is still kept. It depicts Jesus Christ on the Cross.

Drasing Castle is currently owned by the Kos family and used privately. Tourists are not allowed in its interiors.
