The City Theater is one of the architectural landmarks of Evpatoria. Its construction was started involuntarily, in connection with a fire in the old building for theatrical performances in 1898, which was located in the city square (today the garden named after Karaev).

The theater was designed by architects A.L. Henry (chief architect of the city) and P.Ya. Seferov. In 1908, construction began and lasted two years. The new building was opened in 1910 on April 20.

The theater is a rather impressive structure made in the Art Nouveau style, where the geometrism of architectural forms is especially emphasized. The main volumes are the stage and the auditorium - different in height, where a towering stage platform with a gable floor dominates. The main facade of the theater will be adjoined by a portico with square in plan and rather powerful pillars-columns. At the top of the portico there is a viewing platform with a parapet. On the sides of the main facade there are terraces located at the level of the second floor.

Strict architectural volumes due to the geometric shape, clear drawings of the building frame, large windows of the main facade, textured contrasts created by various plaster patterns and symmetry of the composition give building of extraordinary expressiveness and originality. However, due to the heavier forms and excessive pretentiousness, it somewhat loses its architectural and artistic qualities.

The interior can be considered more successful. Three-tiered hall, despite its relatively small size, it can accommodate about 800 people and even more. The merit of the architects, undoubtedly, is the excellent acoustics, which did not go unnoticed by the numerous performers who performed from the stage of this theater. The stucco decoration of the interior, the author of which is the artist Zhukov, is striking in its splendor.

The theater building occupies a dominant position in this part of the city, since it has majestic volumes. The theater square is located around the building itself.

On Teatralnaya Square, on the opposite side of the theater, there are two more buildings, the architecture of which contains elements of "modern".
