To the left of the Doge's Palace there is a Straw Bridge, named so because barges that brought straw for prisons moored here. This bridge was built in 1360 and enlarged in the 19th century. From this place, an exciting picture of the gloomy Palace Canal opens with the Bridge of Sighs connecting the Doge's Palace with the building of the 16th century New Prisons.
