Photo and description

Aalborg, one of the largest and oldest cities in Denmark, is located on the coast of Limfjord in northern Jutland. Currently Aalborg is a major seaport and commercial center of the country. Locals call their city "little northern Paris".

The main attraction of which Aalborg is proud is the City Hall, located on Gammel Torv Square, where city meetings, fairs, public executions were held in the Middle Ages.

Unfortunately, the building the town hall, which Jens Bang showed his tongue, has not survived. Its successor was a late Baroque building whose history begins in 1762. It is a two-story yellow stone palace with white columns, undulating baroque pediments and sandstone decorations. Above the door is a bust of King Frederick V and his heraldic motto “God alone is worthy of Glory.”

Previously, the Town Hall housed a bureaucratic apparatus, today the building is used for official receptions, various exhibitions and city cultural events. Not far from the Town Hall there is the Gothic Cathedral of St. Budolph, the unique Jens Bang mansion, the Holy Spirit Monastery and the History Museum.

The Town Hall is a popular attraction in Denmark, which is visited by a huge number of tourists from all over the world throughout the year.
