The title in English is Jens Bangs Stenhus. Photo and descriptionA unique mansion on Gammel Square, located opposite the City Hall - Jens Bang's house. It is one of the most visited structures in the city and is very popular with tourists due to its interesting history. The mansion was built in 1624 in the Dutch Renaissance style. The wealthy merchant Jens Bang built himself one of the most luxurious mansions, thereby confirming his status and condition. The house is a five-story stone structure with typically Dutch wavy gables and a red tile roof. The facade of the building is decorated with original sandstone molding, the main entrance is made in the form of a small tower, to which a beautiful stone staircase leads. Jens Bang wanted to become a member of the city council, but the local nobles refused to satisfy the desire of the merchant, despite his financial viability. In revenge, Bang ordered to carve a small sculpture on the facade of his house that overlooked Town Hall Square - a head with a tongue hanging out. This scandalous trick did not give any result, the merchant was never accepted into the city council. Currently, the sculpture is still in its place and will continue to tease passers-by. Over time, Jens Bang's house was considered the largest Renaissance building in Northern Europe. Today, official receptions and ceremonial meetings are held in the premises of the building. The oldest pharmacy in Aalborg has been operating on the first floor of the mansion for three hundred years.
