Photo and description

The Museum of Shipping and Navigation is located in the port area of Aalborg, one and a half kilometers from the historic city center.

The museum was opened on May 24, 1992, and Queen Margrethe II of Denmark herself was present at the ceremony. Over the past 23 years, the museum's collection has grown dramatically in size, and the museum itself has become one of the most popular museums in all of North Jutland. Every year it is visited by several thousand tourists - both from Denmark itself and from other countries.

Most of the museum's exhibits are presented in the open air, in the city's shipyard - this area is 15,000 square meters. Its most important exhibit is the surviving Danish submarine - a submarine known as Springeren, after which this museum was named. This word is translated from Danish as "knight". She, like many other boats of this type, was designed in the first half of the 20th century, even before the outbreak of World War II. It is believed that the acquisition of this submarine from the Danish naval forces was the impetus for the opening of the Museum of Shipping and Navigation.

An exhibition dedicated to the history of the development of navigation, which presents the oldest and most primitive devices that allow you to navigate by the stars. Here you can see various compasses and maps, which have been constantly modernized over the centuries. Scientific and technological progress contributed to the emergence of new, most improved methods of orientation on the high seas - the first electronic navigation and radio devices appeared, which are most widely represented in this museum.

Separate exhibitions are dedicated to ship models, sailors' military uniforms and much more. A ship control simulator and an exciting game "Search for pirate treasures" were specially equipped for children.
