Description, photographs and a map showing the nearest significant objects. The title in English is Palacio de la Generalitat. Photo and descriptionThe Palace of the Government (Palacio de la Generalitet) is located in the central square of the Virgin Mary, next to other main buildings of the city, such as the Basilica of the Virgin Mary, the Cathedral of Valencia and others. In the old days, commissions were located here, whose duties included control over the implementation of taxation of the residents of Valencia. After some time, a representative body of the city was formed here. Today the Government Palace is the seat of the government of the autonomous province of Valencia. The building of the Government Palace is very ancient. Its construction began in 1421 under the direction of the architect Pere Conte. In the architecture of the Palace there is a mixture of Gothic and Renaissance styles. The Palace building, unfortunately, not completely preserved - one of its towers was destroyed. In the middle of the 20th century, a group of architects developed and implemented a project for the reconstruction of the building of the Government Palace, maximally recreating its original appearance. Through the front entrance you can get into an unusually beautiful, cozy small courtyard. The interiors of the Palace amaze with the variety and richness of decor. Of particular note is the "Golden Hall" with its amazing painted ceiling, designed by Gines Linares in 1534, in the decoration of which many famous artists of the time took part. On the ground floor, there is the majestic "Hall of the Cortes", decorated with a coffered ceiling and a tiled frieze. The Palace of the Government of Valencia is open to visitors from Monday to Friday, and everyone can view it both from the outside and from the inside.
