Photo and description

Dunkeld Cathedral is located on the north bank of the Thay River in the small Scottish town of Dunkeld. Earlier this place was the monastery of the Celtic monks-Kaldi. The monastery appeared here in the 6th or 7th century and was just a few wicker huts. In the 9th century, the king of the Picts, Constantine, built a stone monastery here and declared Dankeld the religious center of the district. From this building, only individual elements made of reddish sandstone have survived. The construction of the cathedral in its present form began in 1260, and was completed only in 1501. Such a long construction led to the fact that different styles can be traced in the architecture of the cathedral: Gothic and Romanesque elements are closely intertwined. Although the cathedral is partially destroyed, services are held there. There is a museum in the cathedral, whose exhibits tell about the life of monks, about the history of the cathedral and the history of the city.
