Photo and description

Canazei is one of the most famous ski resorts located in the Italian Val di Fassa in the Trentino-Alto Adige region between the Sassolungo, Marmolada and Sella mountains. It is interesting that the name of the city can be translated as “reed, reed channel”, while the city itself is located at the foot of the majestic Dolomites, and on the banks of the local river Avisio there is no reed smell. Probably, in ancient times, the river overflowed, and reeds grew violently in the place of the creeks. Today, Canazei is a recognized ski resort, attracting tourists with a variety of opportunities for practicing winter sports. The best way to get here is via Bolzano, which is located just 44 km away, or from Trento, with car rental, train and bus connections available.

As mentioned above, Canazei belongs to the large ski region of Val di Fassa (about 190 km of slopes) and has a common ski area with the Campitello resort. The Alba di Canazei-Ciampac ski area consists of 15 km of slopes, most of which are red, and 6 ski lifts. In the Canazei-Belvedere area, there are almost 17 km of pistes, also predominantly red, and there are 10 chair and gondola lifts. Finally, Canazei Pordoi Pass is just 5 km of slopes and 3 lifts. In addition, from Canazei it is easy to get to the popular Sella Ronda ski area and rush with the breeze along the black Champac Canazei track, which is considered one of the most difficult in the Dolomites. Freeride fans will love the Belvedere area at Col Rodella, where there are snow parks and boardercross tracks.

Just 1, 5 km from Canazei, at an altitude of 1517 meters above sea level, is the tiny village of Alba di Canazei, famous for its cafes and restaurants with excellent cuisine. Among the resort's entertainment, in addition to skiing itself, it is worth noting the Eghes sports and fitness center, where you can take a course of massage or thalassotherapy, the Gianmaria Scola ice palace and a couple of cinemas. In the neighboring town of Vigo di Fassa, there is an interesting Ladinsky Museum dedicated to the Romansh culture. And in the warm season, one of the branches of the museum opens in the village of Pena, located just above Alba di Canazei. It is impossible to ignore the monuments of history and architecture in Canazei itself - the 16-century church of the "Snowy" Virgin Mary, the Church of San Floriano, built in 1500 and decorated with frescoes and two Baroque altars, the Gothic church of the 15th century Sant Antonio, the Church of San Sebastiano and San Rocco, also built in the Gothic style, and the Temple of the Sacred Heart, built during the Second World War. By the way, a separate museum is also dedicated to the Great War, which displays artifacts of those years found in the glaciers of Marmolada.
