Photo and description

An obelisk with a height of sixty meters has been built on the Crystal Cape in Sevastopol. The composition is made in the form of a connected bayonet and a sail. On the side of the obelisk, which faces the sea, are depicted orders and medals: "Gold Star", the Order of Lenin, as well as a text about the awarding of the title of the hero-city.

The walls of the monument are decorated with various reliefs, which capture the events of those times: moments of the defense of the city, episodes of the struggle of the underground, fragments of the battles for the liberation of the city. Memorial words are engraved here on the memorial.

The obelisk was erected in 1977, to the sixtieth anniversary of the October Revolution. A group of sculptors worked on the monument: I.G.Shamsedinov, A.L.Sheffer, E.P. Veresov, I.V.Bagley, M.G. Katernoga. A granite parapet encloses the platforms next to the obelisk. On one site you can see a sea anchor, on the other cannons of the Crimean War model are installed. It was in this place that they were not accidentally. The coastal battery stood here in 1854-1855, together with the rest of the batteries, it guarded the approaches to the inner roadstead. When work was going on to install the obelisk, old cannons were found in the ground. They were preserved and placed at the foot of the monument as a memory of the military merits of Sevastopol and as a symbol of the continuity of traditions among the inhabitants of the city.

The height of the obelisk at the Crystal Cape is eighty meters above sea level. It can be clearly seen from various points of the city. The sun's rays illuminate it with golden light in the early morning and evening at sunset. In the dark, the obelisk is illuminated by searchlights, and it seems that as if he soars over Sevastopol as a permanent guardian of the city. On holidays, the sky above the monument is bursting with multicolored fireworks. Sparks of colorful garlands flare up and reflect in the water, and then go out, slowly plunging into the water.
