Photo and description

The Kaitaz house is located on the street of the same name in the old Mostar. Due to the originality and beauty of the building, this Turkish house is marked by UNESCO and entered into the World Heritage Register.

Mostar emerged shortly before its conquest by the Turks, so the city had not yet managed to create its own culture and appearance. From the 15th to the 18th, these lands were part of the Ottoman Empire. And the best sights of the city - the Old Bridge, mosques, oriental bazaar - belong to the Turkish heritage.
The house, an architectural masterpiece of the Ottoman era, has been in the possession of one family for four centuries. All generations of the family have taken great care of the medieval heritage. Thanks to this, the Kaitaz house remains one of the most beautiful and distinctive in the city.

A solid wooden gate conceals a stone-paved courtyard. The courtyard is the embodiment of coziness: the benches for relaxation are in the shade of trees, and the silence is disturbed only by the sound of the fountain. It is made of copper jugs in the medieval oriental tradition. Turkish style prevails in everything. A steep staircase leads to the interior rooms, which are furnished in the same manner. Furniture, carpets, antique lamps, household utensils and national clothes - everything has been preserved in its original form. And from the hinged veranda, as before, an excellent view of the city and the Neretva River opens up, surrounded by lush coastal vegetation.

The house is pleasantly cool in any hot weather. For refreshment, guests are offered a special drink made from tea rose petals.
