Description, photographs and a map showing the nearest significant objects. The title in English is Muzej Hercegovine. Photo and descriptionThe Herzegovina Museum is located in the old part of the city, not far from the bazaar. The building of the museum, an example of a combination of Austro-Hungarian and Oriental architectural styles, was once the residence of the prominent Yugoslav statesman Dzhemal Biedic, who died in a 1977 plane crash. The museum was founded much earlier, in 1950, to preserve the historical and cultural heritage of Herzegovina and Mostar. The entire rich centuries-old history of the city and area is represented by collections of archaeological finds and ethnographic exhibits. Photos, historical documents and rare objects reflect the periods of development of one of the most difficult territories of the Balkan Peninsula. The section of numismatics is presented quite fully, where you can learn about the origin of the first money of Herzegovina and see the coins with your own eyes. There are many real rarities among tens of thousands of museum exhibits. Interesting antique furniture and antique household items, presented by period. The museum has an impressive film archive. There is a cinema on the ground floor, where documentaries about the turbulent history of Herzegovina are shown. Most of the videos are devoted to the Balkan War - its beginning and development. Mostar was among the cities most affected by the civil war. There is a shooting of the targeted destruction of the main attraction of the city - the famous bridge. Documentary footage captured the first days of the end of the war: the ruins of a bridge, dilapidated beautiful houses. To make the scale of cultural and architectural losses more fully visible, a movie about the pre-war Mostar is on the big screen. The museum has several branches in the city. One of them, located in the original building, acts as an interpretation center. There, with the help of modern technologies, the natural beauty of Herzegovina and the main historical events that took place on this land are shown. Research activities are conducted in the museum, there is a large library.
