Photo and description

600 km. to the northwest of Cotonou, on the border with Togo, lies the city of Bocumba, widely known for its market, which is regarded as the best market in the country. Only here you can buy rare, authentic traditional folk sculptures and smoking pipes made of precious woods - a source of pride for local craftsmen. Every four years, Bocumba hosts a unique Whipping Festival, during which naked young men with whips form large crowds and engage in serious battles with residents of neighboring villages. This is, of course, a ceremonial ceremony that does not cause much harm to the participants, but the spectacle, nevertheless, is not for the faint of heart.
