The palace is located on La Rambla, beautifully lined with dense trees on both sides, which is famous for its beauty and attractions located on it. Manuel de Amate served as Viceroy of Peru since 1761 and ended up as a wealthy man. He wanted to build a luxurious house for himself and his wife, but he never lived to see the end of the construction. After the completion of its construction, the palace was home to his widow, Maria Francisca Fiveler y Blue, for a long time, and the palace has since become known as the Palace of the Viceroy. The exterior of the palace clearly demonstrates the powerful influence of France in the architecture of Catalonia of this period. The majestic facade of the building is made in a luxurious baroque style with the addition of classicism elements. The facade is symmetrical about the main vertical axis, decorated with fine pilasters, balconies with cornices and wrought iron railings. The magnificent interiors in the French Rococo style amaze with an abundance of luxurious details. Especially noteworthy is the vaulted dining room decorated with allegorical paintings. The courtyard of the palace is also unusually beautiful and elegant. Today, the palace building is a cultural center, where exhibitions of contemporary Catalan artists and sculptors are constantly held. The Museum of Decorative Arts is located on the ground floor.
