Church of Abu Serg in Egypt, resort of Cairo
Rating: 8,4/10 (157 votes)  This church is also known as the Church of St. Sergius and Bacchus. It is famous not for architecture, but for the place where it is located. According to legend, it was here, in the grotto, that the Virgin Mary hid with the baby. In the place of this grotto, a church was erected. Now only the foundation remains of the old building, built in the fifth century. The modern building dates back to the twelfth century. From the outside, the church is an unremarkable rectangular building. There is no bell tower. In terms of architecture, the Abu Serga church is a basilica with a central nave. There are galleries above the side aisles. The entrance to the Sagrada Familia is located in the chapel to the left of the altar. A white dome was built over the grotto.
