Soganli Valley in Turkey, Cappadocia Resort

These valleys are one of the most remarkable and interesting sights of Cappadocia. They are located south of Urgup and are named after the village located in the center.

People have lived in these valleys since the early Byzantine Empire until the 13th century. The local churches and frescoes in these churches are considered the best preserved in all of Cappadocia. The churches in the northern valley are especially interesting: Kubbeli-Kilise, Sakly-Kilise – decorated with frescoes with the apostles, Meryem-Ana, Yylani – a church with Armenian and Greek inscriptions, and Karabasy – a church with frescoes dating from the 10th-11th centuries and two chapels.

There are also several churches in the southern valley. Geyikly-Kilise and Barbara-Kilise – the only free-standing basilica in the entire region,
