This temple – one of the most famous temples in Chiang Mai. It was founded on the place where King Mengrai died from a lightning strike. In the 15th century, the temple housed a statue of the Emerald Buddha, which has now been transported to Bangkok.

During the earthquake, the 90-meter high chedi was destroyed, but in 1992 it was rebuilt.

In the wihan of the temple there is a statue of the Golden Buddha. The walls of the vihan are decorated with 32 panels depicting events from the life of the Buddha.
