Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Emerald Temple or Wat Phra Kaew) is located in the historical part of Bangkok and is part of the Royal Palace complex. The world fame was given to this temple by a small (only 66 centimeters high) statue of Buddha, which a talented master of the 15th century carved from solid jadeite.

The first image of this statue was discovered in one of the Chiang Rai temples in 1431 year. There are versions, according to one of which, this statue was originally covered with gold plates, and according to another, it was enclosed inside a clay statue of Buddha of a much larger size.

Periodically, the servants of the temple change the robes"Buddha. The walls of the temple are decorated with original paintings, and the entrance to it is guarded by bronze lions brought from Cambodia.

Inside Wat Phra Kaew is the royal pantheon, where statues of eight previous rulers of the Chakri dynasty are installed.

The Temple of the Emerald Buddha is one of the most popular landmarks in Bangkok.
