Rating: 8,7/10 (4368 votes) The Spinnaker Tower is 170 meters high, 2.5 times the height of Nelson's Column. It is the tallest building in the UK outside London and the center of the port of Portsmouth, which was reconstructed under a grant from the National Lottery.
The tower was designed by urban firm HGP Architects and built by Mowlem.
The Spinnaker Tower reflects the maritime history of the city of Portsmouth, which is why its unusual sail shape is associated with this. Construction was postponed and suspended many times due to shortages or cost overruns, but the building was still reopened in October 2005. The Spinnaker Tower can be seen at a distance of several tens of kilometers from the city center.
