Lokenhaus Castle is one of the oldest in Austria. The castle got its name from the village of Loika, on the territory of which it was built. The chapel, with fragments of frescoes from the 13th century, and the Knights' Hall have been preserved in the castle almost in their original form. An exhibition is currently located in the underground hall of the castle.

The castle was first documented in 1242, but its construction dates back to the early 13th century. At that time, the estate belonged to the Hareni family. Lokenhaus was built as a defensive fortress. The place of its construction was not chosen by chance – since it was located on a spur of a mountain range, the owners could control all roads leading to the west, and the fortress also blocked the passage to the Ceberntal valley.

Franz III Nadashdi, Elizabeth's nephew, was humane person. Under him, the Lokenhaus fortress acquired a worthy historical appearance. In 1636, he also erected the `` outer '' the castle is slightly below the main fortress.

In 1676 Count Paul Esterhazy took possession of the castle, who used it as an ammunition depot and storeroom.

Po the end of the Second World War, the castle began to decline. Restoration work began in 1968, after the fortress was bought by Professor Paul Anton Keller.

Nowadays, horse rides, archery competitions and knight games are organized in the castle. In early summer, the Chamber Music Festival takes place here. The castle also houses the P.A. Keller. Lokenhaus guests can stay here for several days – the castle has a restaurant and a hotel.
