Rating: 7,5/10 (100 votes) St. Catherine's Basilica in Hamburg is one of the five main Lutheran churches in the city. The church is distinguished by its beautiful bell tower, thanks to which it was very popular among sailors, since it was located near the port warehouses. The church was first mentioned in documents of 1256, but its construction was only completed in the 15th century. In 1657, during the construction work, the bell tower of the church was crowned with a dome, after which the building reached 117 meters in height. During the Second World War, the building of the church was seriously damaged and was not restored for a very long time. The first restoration work in the church was carried out in 2007.
