Vasur or Serengeti Papua is an Indonesian national park located in the province of Papua. The ecological conditions of Vasur are practically pristine, the human influence on nature in these places is extremely insignificant. Most of the territory of the national park (up to 70%) is savannah, the rest of the land is very swampy and is represented by bamboo forests, thickets of palm trees and grassy plains.

The history of Vasur began in 1978 with the formation of the reserve, whose area was 2100 km & sup2;. After 28 years, the territory was increased to 4138 km & sup2;, in connection with which it was decided to assign Vasur the status of a national park, and in 2000 the protected lands were officially included, according to the Ramsar Convention, in the list of protected wetlands.

Vasur National Park has gained world fame as a place with unique biological diversity. The protected area is home to over 258 species of birds and 111 species of fish, more than 80 species of mammals, many of which are endemic. The most notable protected fauna are the nimble wallaby, the royal bird of paradise, the cresty and freshwater crocodiles, and the helmet cassowary. An interesting attraction of Vasur is the termite colonies, the dwellings of which, called by the locals"misamus", amaze the imagination with their size: the"anthill" can reach 5 meters in height. It is worth noting that termites are quite dangerous insects, so you should not poke the misamus with a stick or climb with your hands or feet. Another danger lurking travelers in the savannah there are a large number of venomous snakes.

The best time to visit Vasur is from July to September. Cultural tourism is allowed on the territory of the park, the most common entertainment for visitors is horseback riding on the savannah, watching animals, as well as fishing in local rivers. Visiting Vasur with a guide requires permission and will cost about 10 thousand rupees. You also have to pay to use the camera.
