Since then, the street has gained fame as the center of London's medicine. Since the middle of the 19th century, the number of medical practices, surgeons, private clinics and other medical institutions began to grow rapidly on Harley Street. For example, in 1852, the famous London doctor William Jenner settled here, and in 1853 one of the first Establishment for sick Gentlewomen hospitals was opened, under the leadership of the famous Florence Nightingale.
