Moomin Museum in Finland, Tampere resort
Rating: 9,2/10 (790 votes)  The Moomin Museum is a unique museum for children in Tampere, Finland dedicated to the world of mummy trolls created by by the Swedish writer T. Jansson. In the late 70s of the XX century, the writer Tove Jansson with the artists Tuulikki Pietila and Penti Eistula, with the support of the architect Reima Pietila, built a real Moomin house of five floors, 2, 5 meters. The house was shown in the writer's homeland, in connection with which a world tour was planned, which never took place. Only a trip to the Scandinavian countries in 1980-1983 was organized. After that, the house was under restoration in Jansson's workshop for three years. In 1986, it was shown again to residents and visitors of the city of Tampere, and the next year it became the center of the formed exposition of the Mummy Troll Museum. For two decades this museum has become very popular, more than a million people have visited it. The museum is located in the basement of the city library. Here are collected and presented original illustrations of the writer for books about Moomin trolls, multimedia and other exhibits, a five-story Moomin house with furniture and toy figures of its owners; more than 2000 objects in total. The museum's gift shop sells thematic souvenirs, toys, and books about Moomin trolls in different languages of the world. In a separate room of the museum, you can watch a documentary about the life and work of Tove Jansson. In front of the entrance to the museum there is a bronze figure of a little Moomin, a pedestal for which is a petrified tree found in Madagascar, more than a million years old. The sculpture was created by Matti Kalkamo and unveiled in honor of the 60th anniversary of the release of Tove Jansson's first book about Moomins, Moomins and the Great Flood, in 1945.
