Initially, the castle was the summer residence of the emperors, and nowadays it is a significant architectural monument of the land of Bugenland. The castle is currently owned by Baron Paul Waldbott-Bassenheim. Today, Halbturn Castle is associated with culture, wine, interesting exhibitions and a pleasant historical and culinary atmosphere. The ceiling fresco Allegory of Light and Time by Franz Anton Maulberch in 1765 deserves special attention. This fresco was a wedding present for Archduchess Maria Christina. The Halbturn winery is one of the oldest Austrian wineries. Numerous awards, received not only in Austria, but also abroad, testify to the high quality of the products. Here you can also visit the Knappensteckl restaurant, where you can taste culinary delicacies in vaulted romantic rooms, and enjoy local wines. From April to September, the castle hosts numerous exhibitions that are popular with art lovers.
