ImageCastle Park - a park laid out on the site of the old Bristol Castle, built by the order of William the Conqueror. The first mentions of the castle date back to the end of the 11th century. It was originally a wooden building. Soon it was rebuilt in stone. The castle was almost impregnable due to the high walls and towers and a good location between two rivers. After the death of Henry I, this fortress played a significant role in the wars for the English throne. Also, noble captives were kept here. However, by the middle of the 16th century, the castle began to collapse and decline. It was ruled by the king and the local city authorities could not carry out restoration work. The crumbling castle becomes a haven for robbers. In 1656, it was demolished by order of Oliver Cromwell. Today, on the site of the Bristol Castle, a large picturesque park is laid out, which is popular with vacationers and tourists. In some places, among the greenery, you can find the preserved ruins of the castle. ImageImageImageImageImage
