The Catholic Church of St. Kunibert is located in the north of Old Cologne, on the Konrad Adenauer embankment. The church is a three-aisled Romanesque basilica with a transept.

According to legend, even in pagan Roman times, on the site where the temple is located today, a sacred spring was discovered, the water of which saves from sterility – for this you just need to look into the depths of the well. In our time, a slab was installed in front of the altar, on which you can watch a children's round dance, symbolizing the power of water.

Saint Kunibert was a Catholic saint, the tenth bishop of Cologne and confessor of King Dagobert the First. It was he who founded the Basilica of St. Clement in Cologne, where he was later buried. / p>
At the beginning of the 13th century, Theodoric von Wid, abbot of the Kuniberta monastery, laid a new basilica on the site of the church of St. Clement. The first was built the church crypt, into which the relics of St. Kunibert were transferred. In 1226, the construction of the choir was completed, and already in 1247 the church was consecrated in honor of St. Kunibert.

The western tower of the building was destroyed in a fire in 1376, but was soon rebuilt , but in the Gothic style.

During the Second World War, the church building was seriously damaged – the roof, transept and west tower were destroyed. After the end of the war, restoration work began in the temple. Services began immediately after the restoration of the lateral longitudinal nave, although the restoration work on the building was not fully completed. The choir and main nave of the church were rebuilt by 1955, and the west tower and transept had been restored by the late 1970s. The restoration work was completed only in 1985.
