Church of St. Peter was built in 1922 on the site of the Cathedral of Saint Francis, which appeared in Bandung much earlier - in 1895. The church was designed and built in neo-gothic style by famous architect, sculptor and painter Charles Wolf Shoemaker - a native of Java, descended from a Dutch family and who is the author of almost all known buildings of Bandung. During its existence, St. Peter's Basilica served Cathedral of three Catholic structures: Apostolic Prefecture from 1932 year, the apostolic vicariate since 1941 and, finally, the diocese since 1961.
