Rating: 8,0/10 (4309 votes)  Historical Museum Frankfurt – a unique in terms of the number of exhibits, a historical museum located in the historical center of Frankfurt am Main. The museum collection contains exhibits reflecting the history of the city from antiquity to the present day. The museum is located in the Saalhof palace complex, built approximately in XII century. Five buildings of the complex have retained their historical appearance, the building of the museum – was built in the period from 1969 to 1972, so it did not fit very organically into the look of the buildings. Therefore, in 2011 it was demolished and a new low-rise building with a gable roof was created. The collection of the museum includes exhibits reflecting the history of the city from 1120, when the Saalhofkapelle chapel was built, to the present day. In addition to the permanent exhibition, there are temporary thematic exhibitions: From the Palatinate to the Early City, Frankfurt in the Late Middle Ages, Historical Topography of Frankfurt, History from the Middle Ages to the Present;, `` Metropolis on the Main: a history of the city from 1866 to 2001 '', `` Eintracht Frankfurt '', `` From visitor to Frankfurt '' immigration and coexistence '', `` Library of the elderly '' – a unique collection of memories. One of the most popular items in the collection – a set of city models, including three models created by the Truner brothers between 1926 and 1955. The largest model demonstrates the city center during the Middle Ages, the second model – city center after the destruction of World War II, the third – city center after restoration.
