Caltagirone is an Italian commune located in the Sicily region. The total area of the city is 382 km 2.

One of the main attractions in the city is the Museum of Pottery, created in 1965. The museum displays a collection of ancient and modern tableware and terracotta from the ancient Greek period.

Among the religious buildings of the city, it is worth highlighting:
  • The Baroque Church of San -Francesco di Paola. The sacristy of the basilica was built in the Gothic style;
  • Cathedral of Saint Julian with a 20th century facade, designed by Saverio Gulli;
  • Temple of San Francesco d ’ Assisi, erected in 1236 and rebuilt after the earthquake of 1693 in the Baroque style. The facade is decorated with two nautical symbols and a statue of the Immaculate;
  • The Basilica of Gesu, built by   in 1570. The facade of the building was decorated with eight statues depicting the Madonna and Child;
  • Temple of St. James;
  • Church of Santa Maria del Monte, faced with white stone;

The main landmark in the city is the monumental staircase, which was built in 1608. Each step in the staircase, symbolizing the steps of Saint Mary, has been decorated with ceramics using numbers and styles. Every July, the staircase is lit with candles of various colors.
