The sculptural decoration of the bell tower is the most important work of the Italian trecento, which shows an exquisite mixture of Gothic awe and monumentality. The Campanile was built over several years by three craftsmen – Giotto, Andrea Pisano and Francesco Talenti. The facade of the bell tower was faced with white and green marble.
