St. James Cathedral was built by the architect I.Ya. Herkomer in 1717-1724, on the site where the Gothic cathedral used to be. It was made in the Baroque style.

The building of the temple is quite simple and does not have rich decorations. Its distinctive feature is a large number of windows of various shapes. A large dome rises in the middle of the temple complex, and two towers on the sides of the cathedral are crowned with small domes. An equestrian statue is installed in the center of the roof, and under it is a statue of the Virgin Mary with a baby in her arms, placed in a special niche.

During the Second World War, the temple was badly damaged, but was rebuilt in 50 -s of the XX century.
