Cathedral of St. James the Apostle is the main Armenian church in Jerusalem and is located on the territory of the Armenian quarter. The building of the temple was built in the XII century.

It is generally believed that the temple was erected on the burial place of the Holy Apostle James. In the first centuries of our era, a Byzantine church was located on this site, and in the 12th century there was a temple of the Crusaders.

The architectural ensemble of the Cathedral of St. James the Apostle, which has survived to this day, includes buildings, the construction of which belongs to the XII — XVIII, when its reconstruction was carried out. The interior decoration of the temple includes many lamps suspended from the ceiling. They form the illumination of the cathedral.

There are three altars inside the cathedral. The right altar is dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, the left altar – Holy Virgin Mary, and the central – Saint Apostle James.

There are three small chapels near the temple. One of them houses the tomb of Bishop Macarius, created in the 4th century. The Cathedral of St. James is a significant historical landmark of the Armenian Quarter of Jerusalem.
