Fort Carre – a fortress in the shape of a four-pointed star, unusual for medieval buildings, built in 1565, located in the northern part of Antibes. Vauban, military advisor to Louis XIV, fortified the fort in the 18th century. Louis XIV made the fort the main military base. Napoleon Bonaparte was imprisoned in this fort. He was threatened with the death penalty, but General Dugomier convinced the court that France should not be deprived of such a gifted warrior. Thanks to him, Napoleon was pardoned. Near the fort is the port of Vauban, separated from the old city by a pier.

Today Fort Carre – the main symbol of Antibes.
