Porta Nuova gate in Italy, Milan resort

The gates are located along the defensive fortifications of the same name, which served as a continuation of the fortifications of Porta Venezia. The gate was erected in 1810-1813 in the `` Spanish wall '', which in our time in this part of the city is completely destroyed. The author of the project was the architect Giuseppe Zanoia, who also participated in the design of the facade of the Milan Cathedral. The gate is located along the ancient Roman road that previously connected Milan with the Brianza area. The location of the gate played an important commercial role as the gate was located next to the then existing shipping canal. The Porta Nuova gate was built in the form of a triumphal arch with a yellow sandstone vault, which was decorated with bas-reliefs. Former customs checkpoints are located on both sides of the gate.
