Some historians agree that the foundation the building was laid back in 421 during the first settlement. The current cathedral was built in the XI – XII century and restored in 1601. In the architectural solution, the influence of Byzantine architecture is noted. There is a large clock above the Gothic portico. The Basilica of San Giacomo di Rialto, along with other attractions in Venice, has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
