ImageThe square is the largest square in Austria, built in the medieval period (1260). The square is 60 meters wide and 200 meters long.

A large number of attractions are grouped in the square. One of the most significant is the plague column or the column of the Holy Trinity, created in 1723. It was erected in gratitude to the higher powers for ridding the city of plague, fire and war. Funds for the construction were raised by the townspeople themselves.

No less interesting buildings located on the square are the old town hall of the 16th century, Feichtin Gerhaus, a former post-tavern, a house with a Baroque facade, Old and New Cathedrals. On the first floors of ancient buildings that surround the square, there are many souvenir shops and cafes.
