Museum of Fine Arts, aka – The Marseille Museum of Fine Arts is located in the west wing of the Longchamp Palace. The museum itself moved here in the year the palace was opened, in 1869, but the museum in Marseille existed before. Moreover, it was one of the fifty museums created by the personal order of the Emperor of France Napoleon Bonaparte. The original policy of the museum was not to buy expensive masterpieces of painting for huge money, but to show the history of French fine arts of the 18th-19th centuries. In addition to not too widely known canvases by the French, paintings by Dutch and Italian painters are collected here. The sculpture in the museum is presented more richly. Here is one of the largest collections of sculptures by Rodin in France, which he personally donated to the museum.
