Santissima Annunziata – a church located in Florence.

The basilica was built in 1250 by the Servite order. In the years 1444-1477, the building was rebuilt by Michelozzo and Leon Battista Alberti. The courtyard-cloister belongs to the period of reconstruction.

In 1601, the sculptor and architect Giovanni Batista Cacini added a loggia with an arcade on columns to the old basilica, which imitated two loggias of Ospedale degli Innocenti, created dei Servi di Maria and Filippo Brunelleschi, which were built by Antonio da Sangalo and other sculptors. In this way, the symmetrical composition of the square was finally completed, which bore the same name as the basilica.

In the gallery of the cloister, roofed with a glass roof, there is a small painting museum called the Monastery of the Vows. This space is decorated with frescoed lunettes by Rosso Fiorentino, Andrea del Sarto and Pontormo. On the right side of the entrance is the fresco `` Assumption of the Madonna '' by Rosso Fiorentino. Next in order are the `` Annunciation '' works by Jacopo Pontormo and 'The Betrothal of Mary' works by Franciabigio. Particularly attractive are the frescoes by Andrea del Sarto `` The Birth of Mary '' and `` Arrival of the Magi in Bethlehem. ''

To the left of the entrance is the `` Nativity of Jesus '' works by Alesso Baldovinetti, followed by scenes from the life of Saint Filippo Beninzi. The final style of the luxurious interior of the church in the Baroque style took shape after rebuilding in the 17th and 18th centuries. The renovation of the decoration was of a global nature, the interior turned out to be festive, very rare for Florence. The pompous Baroque canopy looks very grandiose for the small Renaissance Basilica of Michelozzo.

The Church of Santissima Annunziata, along with other attractions in the historic center of Florence, has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
