The main purpose of the division of this castle was to block enemy ships in the event of a breakthrough of the defense line. A huge copper chain connected the walls of the fortress with the opposite fortification; in case of danger, it rose and blocked the path of any ship. The Castle is currently a functioning museum and is open to access for a moderate fee.
