Basilica degli Scalzi, also known as Santa Maria di Nazareth, is a church located in the Cannaregio area. The western facade of the temple overlooks the Grand Canal.

The cathedral got its name from the"barefoot"; Carmelite monks who founded it in the 17th century. The construction of the church was entrusted to the architect Baldassar Longene. Construction began in 1660 and was completed only in 1689. Later, the facade of the church was redesigned by Giuseppe Sardi. In 1743-1744, the vaults of the temple were painted by Tiepolo.

In 1915, a bomb hit the cathedral, destroying the roof and destroying the painting of Tiepolo.

Lodovico Manin was buried in the temple – The 120th Doge of Venice.

The Scalzi Cathedral, along with other sights of Venice, has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
