The main square (Plaza Mayor) in Spain, Salamanca resort
Rating: 8,3/10 (8840 votes)  This square is the center of Salamanca and one of its main attractions. It is a regular trapezoid surrounded by three-storey arched structures. The design of these structures was developed in 1729 by Alberto de Churriguera. It is this unified architectural style that makes the Plaza Mayor in Salamanca one of the best squares in the whole country, as well as a wonderful place for various ceremonies. In the 19th century, bullfights took place there. The square is especially picturesque in the evening, when the lanterns are lit. There are many bars and cafes under the arches, open around the clock.
