The Basilica of San Domenico Maggiore was built in the 13th century in the Gothic style, and has been rebuilt several times throughout its history. Large-scale reconstructions were carried out in the building in the 18th century; during the work, the church acquired the Baroque style. In the 19th century, a number of renovations were carried out again, during which the building returned to its original style.

Inside the temple, the remains of the Romanesque basilica, the sacristy and the chapel of the Crucifixion are interesting. There are also 45 sculptures dedicated to members of the Aragonese royal family. The church is decorated with frescoes by the painter Pietro Cavallini. St. Thomas Aquinas once lived in the monastery attached to the church.
