Monastery”Podmaine” in Montenegro, the resort of Budva
Rating: 7,8/10 (500 votes)  Located in the north of Budva. In another way, the monastery is called Podostrog, because it is located under the Ostrog mountain, towering over the city. There is no exact date of the foundation, but presumably it lies in the time period of the Nemanichi dynasty.Over the years of its existence, the monastery was in the hands of the Venetian Republic, Montenegro, claims to these territories were made by the Austrians (the latter used a religious building as a fortification). At one time, famous clergy of the country lived here: the Metropolitan Peter II, Metropolitan Daniel and others. After a grandiose fire in 1869, the monastery has not restored its former, original appearance. The restoration of the building went on for many years, the official opening of the monastery in its modern form and its new lighting took place in 2000. Today the monastery includes two churches: the Small and the Big Assumption Churches. The monastery is male, but today its brethren are limited to three monks. Tourists can visit the complex in appropriate clothing.
