Military cemetery in Italy, Sicily resort

In July 1943, 160,000 Allied soldiers landed in Sicily to liberate the island from the fascist regime. The Italians, who were preparing to conclude a truce with the Allies, offered"ostentatious resistance", but the German opposition was unyielding and determined. In August of the same year, the campaign ended after the two Allied troops united in Messina. The cemetery was set up for the burial of soldiers killed during the war. Most of them fell during a fierce battle near the borders of Catania. In total, there are 2 135 allied graves in the cemetery, of which 113 have not been identified.
