The Palatine Gallery is the second most important gallery in Florence, after the Uffizi, which stores many works of great artistic value. The gallery is located on the top floor of the Pitti Palace and occupies about 20 rooms. The collection of paintings stored in the halls began to be collected by the Medici family, then by the Dukes of Lorraine.

In contrast to the Uffizi gallery, which became a national property in 1737, the Palatina gallery for a long time remained private property ... Only in 1828 was the collection of paintings in Palazzo Pitti opened to the general public by Leopold II. In 1911, the gallery became the property of the state.

All paintings in the gallery are located in those places on which they were with their owners. In the gallery there is no grouping of exhibits by epochs or schools at all – here the principle is applied, where the decisive factor is the plot, size and color scheme of the paintings. Particular attention in the gallery is given to painting XVI – XVII centuries.

Among the masterpieces of early Italian painters, it is worth noting paintings by Botticelli, Cimabue, Titian, Raphael, Fra Filippo Lippi and Pietro Perugino. Also the pearl of the collection are paintings by Veronese and Tintoretto.

Among the Italian painters of a later period, it is worth highlighting the paintings of Guido Reni, Ribera, Rubens, Caravaggio, Van Dyck, Salvador Rosa, Goya and Francisco Zurbaran.
