The Historical Museum of Holguin is housed in a building called La Periquvera, which is Spanish for a parrot cage. The building got its name when Spanish soldiers, whose brightly colored uniforms resembled the color of the plumage of parrots, used it as housing. Museum exhibitions tell visitors about the history of the city. Museum exhibits – these are the finds of archaeological excavations, the most famous of which is – the so-called `` Holguin's ax '', which is also a symbol of the city.
